The
Open Commons Project
Building & contributing to open-source, open data products with a deep understanding and respect for civic & corporate data.
Our R&D Services
Network Sciences & Complex Systems
Open Commons Project centers itself around developing new means of searching, exploring, visualizing the deep relationships between data. With a passion for complex adaptive systems and network sciences, we aim to bring these disciplines to the forefront of our research, community tools, products, and potential social ventures. We also utilize Neo4j, sigma.js, Nomic Deepscatter, Cosmograph, Openmappr, and a variety of other visualization tools to which we plan to openly contribute.
NLP & LLM Research for Social Impact
Open Commons Project has capacity to help run local large language models, conduct natural language processing, and partner in massive original data research. Contributing to the environmental & human rights utilization of NLP & LLM, while decentralizing AI-usage away from big-tech is a central position of our approach to the responsible utilization of this technology to advance our research, products, partnership contributions, and services.
Civic, Corporate Finance, & ESG Data
At the start of our open research, the primary focus will be on civic data via our first venture, Open.co. However, part of what is missing in current public data tools is the need to simultaneously understand corporate impacts. Open Common Project’s second R&D currently underway centers on tying a variety of open data sources (Wikirate.org, BankTrack, Invest In Your Values) as well as SEC EDGAR research.
Geospatial Analysis & Big Data
It’s pretty simple — we love maps. We love civic data and we want to make public information central & more usable. We miss open data projects like Open Knowledge Foundation U.S. City Census. The gaps over in open data feel growing while the need to be hyper-local in our research capacities. Our commitment is to bring to life the common data local, regional, state, and federal state into a central hub, while advancing GIS SaaS exploration tool via Deck.GL.
